click to enlarge - warning for the faint hearted : may cause an unknown amount of fear or "yucks"Yet another weekend came as "unexpected" ;-) . Didnt think i would be out of bugs on friday, the weekend.we developers are so afraid of these fridays..i start biting nails that I grew over the week on fridays....till now i havent purchased a nail cutter for cutting my nails...now u may think about my feet..well im saving them, who knows one day I may have to bite my fingers off my hand..if you thought I was just kidding....well i was ;-) ...
Ok...so this friday was an unexpected end..overwhelmed with joy..I made a quick plan and told my friend jaise that we can go for crab hunting..I didnt expect him to agree. But the spark got fire and he said yes.And we reached room by 6..took out the gears..a decommisioned shuttlebat and a plastic cover..tats all..this is enough to kill crabs..and a hell of zest we drove to the kazhakootam beach..dont know the beach's name..its near meenamkulam, just near the kinfra park.
we parked the bike on the road.it was dusk..the perfect time to start hunting..the crabs were coming out to the beach for an evening stroll :) ....Crabs will get confused when they are shown bright light..they wont even move and will stand still..this is their curse and thats our chance..they come in masses of about 30 - 60 and climb up the beach sand..when they hear us approaching..maybe the ground vibrations..they will start running towards the sea..this is where we strike...one guy will be the light guy and the other will be the hitman..the light guy will target a crab and come around the crab from the sea side so that the victimised crab cant run to the sea..and he will show the light towards the crab..first the crab shows some random motions but when the lightman gets near to it and the light becomes brighter..they get confused and stand still..now its hitman's chance and he hits it with the bat..a small blow of is just enough for the crab to get crippled and off he goes into the "game bag"...its easier said than done..the whole process of chasing a crab, cornering it,and crippling it will take only 5 to 7 seconds.Thats the only time window we got before the crab gets into the water...if u really want a more descriptive process..i hav already written a post about crab hunting many months back..this time we were focussed to get the biggies and the actions were well planned and synchronised so the misses were minimum..both the hitman's and lightman's actions should be simultaneous and synchronous..else it defeats the whole purpose..the lightman decided which crab is to be caught and he shows light to a singled out and the most advantageous one and the hitman does his part..we swapped roles and hunted on the dark beach for an hour running, diving till our good health could.
We hunted about 3.5 Kilos approx and was too tired to even walk back.so we sat on a catamaran and lied down on it looking up the stars and occasionally some shooting stars and talked about blackholes and supernovas..and we started our journey back..and lost our way..there were only stars to guide us and we didnt know where the pole star was..( as if,if we knew we would find our way )..the whole beach was pitch black..and wandered through the beach cutting the blackness which shrouded us with the sony ericsson's torch light..then two people approached us..they were fisherfolks..we told we lost our way back to the road..they helped us in finding the way back..we came so much advanced after those running and hunting..we had to walk a bit long distance back. And they showed us the exit point..and we were in the bike..with our kill..
Reached room..washed the crabs and laid them to rest into the freezer..we plan to make something this monday or tuesday..maybe a crab soup..heard soups are healthy for software engineers.. :)) ...it was a perfect way to start a weekend..last week rock show..this week crab hunting..next week im going shark hunting..they say we shud aim on the stars to reach beyond the skies.. :))
